Fin Academy: Operator Questions

What operators actually search for.

Not frameworks. Not theory. The exact questions operators type at 11pm when something is wrong. Answered the way an operator thinks, not the way a consultant writes.

These questions come from real search data. They are written the way operators actually phrase problems, not the way documentation teams write them. If you found this page from Google, you are in the right place. If you found it from inside Fin Academy, this is the section that bridges your specific operational problem to the deeper system behind it.

01: Amazon Listing Problems

Amazon Listing

Why is my Amazon listing suppressed if I didn't change anything?

Amazon suppression is frequently triggered by external system changes, not seller actions. Browse node reclassification, safety compliance updates, category policy rewrites, and automated attribute validation sweeps can all flag listings without any input from you. The listing looks unchanged on your end because it is unchanged, but Amazon's classification layer has moved beneath it. Check Seller Central Health dashboard for the suppression reason code. Common codes: "missing required attribute," "safety data sheet required," "browse node reassignment pending." Each has a different fix path.

Why did my Amazon Buy Box disappear overnight?

Buy Box eligibility is recalculated continuously across five primary signals: price competitiveness, fulfilment method (FBA scores higher), seller performance metrics (order defect rate, late shipment rate), stock availability, and account health standing. Losing the Buy Box overnight usually means one signal crossed a threshold: a competitor repriced aggressively, your late shipment rate nudged above 4%, or a new FBA seller entered the ASIN. Check the Buy Box ownership column in Seller Central → Inventory → Manage Inventory. If you have no Buy Box and no suppression notice, price is almost always the first place to look.

Why is my Amazon ACoS low but my profit is still shrinking?

Low ACoS is a PPC metric. It tells you what percentage of ad revenue went to ad spend. It tells you nothing about margin. ACoS can be 12% while your business loses money if your product margin is 15% and you have FBA fees, referral fees, return rates, and storage costs absorbing the rest. This is called margin illusion: the dashboard shows a green number while the P&L bleeds. The correct metric to watch is TACoS (Total Advertising Cost of Sale): ad spend divided by total revenue, not just ad-attributed revenue.

Why are there unauthorised sellers on my Amazon listing?

Unauthorised third-party sellers appear on your listing when your product enters the secondary market: through liquidators, wholesale arbitrage buyers, or grey-market distribution channels. They buy legitimately elsewhere and relist on your ASIN. Amazon does not prevent this unless you are brand registered and can demonstrate IP infringement. Brand Registry gives you tools: Report a Violation, test buy + cease and desist escalation, and Project Zero (self-service counterfeit removal). Prevention is a supply chain problem: tighten distribution agreements, serialise units, and restrict wholesale quantities per account.

Why did Amazon reject my Plan of Action?

Plans of Action fail for four consistent reasons: they address symptoms instead of root causes, they use vague language ("we will improve our processes"), they lack a specific timeline for each corrective action, and they fail to demonstrate the seller understands why Amazon's policy was violated. Amazon's review teams read hundreds of POAs. A successful POA names the exact cause (e.g. "we identified that SKU-4421 was listed under an incorrect browse node, causing it to appear in a restricted category"), states the immediate fix already taken, and provides a permanent prevention mechanism.

02: Amazon Account Problems

Amazon Account

Why did Amazon suspend my account without warning?

Amazon suspensions feel sudden but are rarely without signal. Most are preceded by performance metric drift that was not acted on: order defect rate creeping above 1%, late dispatch rate above 4%, or a policy violation flag in Account Health. Amazon sends these warnings but operators miss them in the volume of Seller Central notifications. The other suspension category is policy-triggered: a listing in a restricted category, a bundle that includes a regulated item, or a brand complaint from an IP rights holder. Check the suspension notification in Seller Central → Performance → Account Health for the stated reason. The POA process differs significantly between performance-based and policy-based suspensions.

Why is my Amazon Account Health Rating dropping?

Account Health Rating (AHR) is a composite score across three dimensions: Customer Service Performance (order defect rate, cancellation rate, late shipment rate), Product Policy Compliance (listing violations, restricted product flags, IP complaints), and Shipping Performance (for FBM sellers). AHR drops when any of these metrics cross thresholds. The most common cause is a cluster of negative feedback or A-to-Z claims in a short window, often correlated with a product quality issue, a logistics delay, or a packaging failure. Addressing AHR requires identifying which dimension is driving the drop before taking action.

03: eBay & Marketplace Problems

eBay & Marketplace

Why is my eBay listing getting views but no sales?

Views without conversion on eBay is a price-trust-presentation problem. In that order. First check: are you in the Buy Box equivalent (eBay calls it the Featured listing position)? If a competitor is significantly cheaper for the same or similar item, views will not convert regardless of your listing quality. Second: seller feedback score below 98% materially reduces buyer trust on eBay, more so than on Amazon. Third: image quality and item specifics completeness directly affect eBay's Cassini search algorithm ranking and buyer confidence. eBay's promoted listings tool can boost visibility but it amplifies the existing conversion problem if the listing itself is not converting.

Why did eBay restrict my selling limits?

eBay imposes selling limits on all accounts and adjusts them based on account age, transaction history, and policy compliance. New accounts start with strict limits. Limits tighten after policy violations, high return rates, or multiple unresolved cases. To increase limits: complete the monthly request in Seller Hub → Overview → Monthly selling limits → Request higher limits. This review considers your recent 90-day performance. Sustained clean performance is the only reliable way to expand limits over time.

04: Operations & Margin Problems

Operations & Margin

Why are my Amazon sales down but nothing changed?

Platform-side changes are the most common cause of unexplained Amazon sales drops: algorithm shifts in A9/A10 affecting organic rank, a new competitor entering the ASIN or adjacent search results, a price change that moved you off the first page of price-sorted results, or a seasonality pattern you have not yet mapped. Check: search rank position for your core 3-5 keywords (use Search Term Report in Advertising), BSR trend (30-day and 90-day), and Buy Box ownership percentage. If all three are stable and sales are still down, the problem is likely external demand, category softness or macroeconomic.

Why is my Amazon return rate suddenly high?

A return rate spike is almost always a product-reality gap: the product is not matching buyer expectation in some dimension: size, function, quality, or assembly difficulty. The fastest diagnostic is the return reason codes in Seller Central → Reports → Fulfillment → FBA customer returns. If "item defective or doesn't work" clusters in a single week, it is a production quality issue. If "item not as described" dominates, it is a listing accuracy problem. If "changed mind" is high, it is usually a price or impulse-buy pattern. Return rate fixes are permanent when they address the root cause, not just the symptom.

See: Smart Signals in FinFlow → Return rate monitoring

Why are my Amazon FBA fees higher than expected?

FBA fees are calculated on product dimensions and weight as measured by Amazon's fulfilment centre, not your own measurements. Amazon remeasures products and adjusts fees accordingly. If your fees spiked without a product change, request a remeasurement in Seller Central → Inventory → Manage FBA Inventory → SKU → Request remeasurement. Also check: were any of your products reclassified to a higher size tier? The Standard → Large Standard → Oversize transitions carry significant fee jumps. Use the FBA Revenue Calculator to model fees before repricing or reordering.

See: Fin Academy Glossary → FBA Size Tiers

If you are tracking this manually, you are already late.

FinFlow flags these signals before they become revenue problems. Suppression signals, return rate drift, Buy Box loss, ACoS/TACoS divergence, all monitored continuously. Not as a dashboard to check. As a Decision Card that tells you what to do next.
